Kia Ora Koutou

Teenei te mihi ki a koutou katoa.

Room 5 is a Year 6, 7 and 8 composite class. Ages range from 10 to 12 years of age. In our class we are collaborative, inclusive learners who believe in a classroom culture of encouragement and support. We strive to demonstrate our school motto of “manaakitanga me te awhina” and our school values every day.

We believe it is important to know exactly where we are in our learning. In our classroom we work on identifying our individual learning needs through testing, teacher observations and student-teacher conversations so that we know exactly what our next steps in our learning are. We use digital learning devices every day to support our learning. Each day we work on our literacy and numeracy individual learning needs within all areas of the curriculum. A main focus for room 5 this year is learning about our local environment, environmental issues and sustainability. Developing te reo Maaori, learning more about our local Maaori history is also a focus for us as a school. Education outside of the classroom will also play a big part in Room 5’s school year, as we will be taking part in many exciting hands on experiences and sports events.

Ko te manu e kai ana i te miro, noona te ngahere.

Ko te manu e kai ana i te maatauranga, noona te ao.

The forest belongs to the bird who feast on the miro berry.

The world belongs to the bird who feasts on education.
